Scott Thornton

Scott O. Thornton of Gibbon died early Friday morning, September 11th, 1981 as a result of injuries received in a pickup-train accident one mile west of Shelton. He was 28.

Mr. Thornton was born in Kearney and was a lifetime resident of the Kearney-Gibbon area.  He graduated from Kearney High School in 1971 and attended Central Technical Community College in Hastings.  He was associated with his father at Thornton Sheet Metal Company for the past 14 years.  He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Kearney Elks Lodge and a past master counselor of DeMolay.

Survivors include his wife, Linda of Gibbon; two sons, Nathan Scott and Cole Jacob, both of Gibbon; his parents Mr. and  Mrs. Jay Thornton of Kearney; two sisters, Donna Caldwell of Kearney and Lori Faye Farquhar of Loomis; and his grandmother, Olive Thornton of Kearney.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and his paternal grandfather.  Funeral services will be Monday at 2 pm. at Faith United Methodist Church.  The Rev. Ivan Richardson will officiate and burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.

Memorials are planned to the Kearney Emergency Unit.  Funeral arrangments are being made by Horner-Lieske Mortuary.

Charles (Chuck) Mahrt

I remember Scott from grade school days when we were in the same cub scout group, Den 12, Pack 139.  We often had our Den meetings at Scott's house and our Pack meeting at Park school.
